Lines here and there

I have uploaded a pencil drawing I did based on a picture by Claire Scully. I have copied the main part of her picture but I have added some lines and vines going up from the corner of the L. I like this picture because it is a simple word made by lots of shapes and intertwining vines.

Etchings and sketchings

I found an artist called Claire Scully who's work links to my project. She does a lot of work based around trees and bark, which is what I have been looking at. I have uploaded some photos of some etchings I did based on her work. They have both been done using green oil paint but I have put some biro in one of them to emphasize the light and dark areas.

Flowers

I have been doing lots of prep work in my sketch pad and one of the pictures I particularly like is a copy of some flowers I did using oil pastels. I drew it all free hand so it took a while to get all the proportions right but I am pleased with the final result.

My Project

We have now moved on from our organic projects and are allowed to choose any theme we want. I have decided to stick with the theme of organic but I have moved onto looking at trees and the shapes and patterns in the bark. I have uploaded a photo of a picture I made out of scraps of paper to look like the bark from a tree. I am going to add ink to it, to make it look more natural as trees have loads of lines and dents in them. I have also uploaded a picture of a carbon copy drawing I did in my sketch pad. I worked into it with black biro and added more detail.

Sketch pad

The first picture I have drawn in my sketch pad is a tree made out of ropes. I have drawn the main trunk as a thick rope and then some smaller ropes branch off the bottom to look like roots. I have drawn the picture over two pages, with the roots on one page and the top of the tree on the other page. The trunk connects the two pages together so it looks like a complete tree. At the top of the trunk, other ropes come out of the trunk to give the effect of branches on a tree. I have also started to draw some leaves on.

Old work

Here are some photos of the work I did for my GCSE art course. I have picked a few pictures from year 10 and 11 from my different projects. The self portrait, painted with block paints, was the first large picture I did in year 10. The picture with the orange centre and blue edges is my final piece for one of my coursework projects. It is also painted with block paints and is based on a series of photos I took, where I reflected my conservatory into some mirrors. The other painting with the teapot on top of some books, with a mug and a wine glass in front, was my final exam piece in year 11. I did it in the style of the Hockney Joiner photos (the drawing of the bottle in biro is also in this style) and cubism.

Organic project

I have been working on my organic project for the last couple of weeks and have been concentrating on my painting of a shell surrounded by roots. I decided to paint the background with red brusho and have blended it from dark on the outside to light pink in the centre of the picture surrounding the shell, to make it stand out.

A level

I have just started my A levels and am looking forward to starting a new school year. I think A levels will be a challenge but I plan to work hard and to make the most of the opportunities offered though the year.
I have always enjoyed art and I always notice the different colours and shapes of things around me. I am looking forward to putting these observations into artwork in the next year.
For the start of our AS level art course, we have been given the title 'Organic'. I am planning on uploading my work and ideas throughout the year to keep track of my progress.
